The Myth

One, day Persephone wandered off to pick flowers. She saw some pomegranate seeds and she plucked six of them and ate them.

Then the lord of the underworld, Hades swooped in and took her down to his layer. Her mother, Demeter was worried because she never came back. Demeter told Zeus to send a messenger to retrieve her. The messenger found her in Hades layer and told Zeus.

Zeus told Demeter that Persephone ate six pomegranate seeds so she had to stay in the underworld for six months and with Demeter for six months. The six months she was in the underworld nothing would bloom because Demeter was so sad. When she comes to live with her mom everything blooms because Demeter and Persephone are happy.
